Master Big Game Fishing Techniques with Babywane

Big Game Fishing Techniques Used by Babywane

As a passionate and expert big game fisherman, I use several proven techniques to maximize your chances of catching impressive fish. Here is an overview of the fishing techniques I practice with my state-of-the-art equipment for offer you an unforgettable experience.

Trolling

Trolling, also known as “Big Game,” is one of the most exciting methods to catch big fish like the blue marlin, THE white marlin, L'sailfish, THE lancer, THE tuna, THE wahoo, and the dolphin fishBy dragging lures or live bait behind the moving boat, we attract marine predators that hunt on the surface.

My trolling equipment is top-notch, including five 80lbs and 70lbs class rods, including three PENN INTERNATIONAL V series bent rods equipped with PENN VSW 80, VISW 80 and VSW 70 reels. I complete this equipment with three 50lb straight rods equipped with PENN SQUAL 50 VSW and ALUTECNOS 50S reels.

After years of sport fishing with renowned lures, I have noticed that marlins are attracted to surface lures that create a large bubble trail. These lures have been perfected over time to improve their attractiveness and effectiveness, resulting in exceptional results on every trip.

Light trolling

Light trolling is practiced at reduced speed with octopuses. It mainly targets black tuna And Striped bonitos but you can also catch the colas bastards And Dolphin fishThis type of fishing is very fun and ensures a lot of catches.

The equipment used are light Daiwa rods and BG5000 reels.

Fast trolling

Also called High Speed Trolling, it was the Americans who initiated this type of fishing, it is the fastest type of trolling. It mainly targets the Thazard or Wahoo of the tuna family but with a more elongated shape. The touch is very violent and the large Thazard provides good sensations in combat.

I use 80 lb angled trolling rods with Penn VSW80 or Shimano Tiagra 80W reels with personal lures built specifically for this type of trolling.

Jigging Fishing

Jigging is an exciting and effective technique for targeting species such as yellowfin tuna, THE black tuna, and the striped bonito. This method consists of using metal lures called jigs, which descended to depth and then rose jerkily to imitate a wounded fish, thus attracting predators.

My jigging gear includes heavy duty jig rods, such as the Dawai 100g-300g rods and BG5000 or BG6500 reel, which are specially designed to withstand the intense fights with fish the most powerful of the depths. Through years of experience, I have refined this technique to maximize your chances of success and give you memorable fights with impressive fish.

Drift fishing or

to Support

Drifting or supporting fishing is a particularly effective technique for targeting yellowfin tuna. Using this method, we let the boat drift with the current while keeping the lines at varying depths. This technique allows us to cover a larger area and attract fish that swim at different depths.

For drifting yellowfin tuna fishing: PENN CARNAGE Blue Fine Tuna 80 lbs angled rod specially designed for fishing large tuna with the iconic Shimano Tiagra 80W reel.

For this technique I use rods and reels suited to deep-sea fishing, ensuring that every catch is well controlled. Live bait and lures are chosen according to the conditions of the day, ensuring a productive and exciting fishing.

Tips for Optimizing Your Catch

Understanding fish behavior

Each species has unique habits and behaviors. For example, marlin are often attracted to bright, fast-moving lures, while tuna respond better to jerkier movements at depth. The secret is to have a range of techniques and equipment suited to all the fish and situations encountered in order to increase your chances of success.

The early hours of the morning are often the best times for big game fishing. The fish are more active and the chances of capture are maximized.

Vary the lures to find what works best on the day of your outing. Sometimes a simple change in lure color or type can make all the difference.

Big game fishing can require patience. Be prepared to spend time searching for fish and adjusting your techniques based on the conditions of the day.

With Babywane, you not only benefit from the best fishing equipment but also from sound advice to optimize each outing. My goal is to offer you an unrivaled big game fishing experience in Guadeloupe, combining pleasure, technique and success.
